Paw Safety Check

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 23 June 2026

Paw Safety Check (“we”, “our”, “the site”) is a free tool that estimates pavement surface temperature from weather data so you can decide whether it is safe to walk your dog. This page explains, in plain language, what data the site touches and why. We try to collect as little as possible - we do not require an account, and we never sell your personal data.

1. Your location

When you tap “Use my location”, your browser asks for permission to share your GPS coordinates. If you allow it, your coordinates are sent to the Open-Meteo weather API to fetch the forecast for that spot. When you type a city instead, that text is sent to Open-Meteo’s geocoding service to look up coordinates.

We do not store your location, save your search history, or link any location to your identity. Coordinates are used only to request the weather for your current check and are not retained on our servers.

2. Cookies and advertising

This site is supported by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

Third-party ad networks may use cookies, web beacons or similar technologies. We do not control these cookies. Please review the privacy policies of these third parties for more information.

3. Analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand aggregate, anonymised traffic (such as page views and country). It is privacy-friendly and does not use cross-site tracking cookies or collect personally identifiable information.

4. Local storage on your device

We store small preferences in your browser’s local storage so the site remembers your choices between visits - specifically your theme (light or dark) and your units (°C or °F). This data stays on your device and is never sent to us. You can clear it any time through your browser settings.

5. Consent (EEA, UK and Switzerland)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google may present a consent message regarding cookies and data use before serving personalised ads, as required under GDPR. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time through that message or your browser settings.

6. Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above.
